La ISA Celebra a Dos Años del Debut Olímpico en Tokio 2020

Reafirma su compromiso de ver el Surfing en París 2024

La International Surfing Association (ISA) celebra hoy el conteo regresivo de dos años para su debut Olímpico, luego de la inclusión histórica del Surfing en el Programa de Deportes Olímpicos para Tokio 2020.

Durante los Juegos Olímpicos de Verano Río 2016, durante la Sesión del COI 129, el Surfing fue electo unánimemente para el Programa de Deportes de Tokio 2020, y desde hoy faltan dos años exactamente para el inicio de los Juegos y el saludo Olímpico del Surfing.

Para Tokio 2020, la ISA mezclará competencia élite con emocionantes actividades culturales y estará ofreciendo un plan de sitio de Festival de Playa único que servirá como una plataforma perfecta para enfatizar la atracción juvenil, el estilo de vida del Surfing y la innovación, en línea con la visión de Tokio para los Juegos.

El Presidente de la ISA, Fernando Aguerre, también reafirmó la ambición de la ISA para partir de la base del debut del Surfing en Tokio 2020 para la inclusión en París 2024 y Los Ángeles 2028.

Al referirse a esta fecha, el Presidente Aguerre dijo:

“Al celebrar que faltan dos años para Tokio 2020, damos un vistazo al increíble viaje que hemos estado haciendo hasta ahora y todo lo que nos falta a partir de ahora. El debut Olímpico del Surfing en Tokio 2020 promete ser un momento único y juntos con el COI y Tokio 2020 nos hemos comprometido en traer la distintiva cultura del Surfing y su energía juvenil a los Juegos.

“Nuestro Festival de Surfing en la playa, que se realizará al lado de la competencia, traerá una emocionante dimensión a la experiencia del Surfing Olímpico y ofrecerá a los fanáticos y a los atletas por igual una experiencia Olímpica como ninguna otra. Estamos emocionados por continuar trabajando al lado de COI y el Comité Organizador de Tokio para reunir las mejores condiciones para el debut Olímpico del Surfing.

“Conforme miramos hacia el futuro, también tenemos nuestra mira en la inclusión de los Juegos Olímpicos París 2024 y por supuesto Los Ángeles 2028.

“La cultura del Surfing en Francia es vibrante y floreciente. Nuestro ISA World Surfing Games más reciente en 2017 se realizó en la ciudad occidental de Biarritz, donde los mejores atletas franceses Pauline Ado, Jeremy Flores, Joan Duru, y Johanne Defay lideraron a su país hasta su primera Medalla de Oro por Equipos. Los fanáticos franceses demostraron su pasión y amor por el Surfing y llegaron en decenas de miles para apoyar a su equipo nacional.

ISA Celebrates Two Years to Olympic Debut at Tokyo 2020

Reaffirms commitment to see Surfing at Paris 2024

The International Surfing Association (ISA) is today celebrating two years out from its Olympic debut, following Surfing’s historic inclusion on the Olympic Sports Programme for Tokyo 2020.

At the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, during the 129^th IOC Session, Surfing was unanimously elected on to the Sports Programme for Tokyo 2020, and today marks exactly two years until the start of the Games and Surfing’s Olympic bow.

At Tokyo 2020, the ISA will blend elite competition with exciting cultural activities, and is offering a unique Surfing Beach Festival venue plan that will serve as the perfect platform to emphasise youth-engagement, surfing lifestyle and innovation in line with Tokyo’s vision for the Games.

ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, also reaffirmed the ISA’s ambition to build on Surfing’s debut at Tokyo 2020 for inclusion in Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028.

Discussing the landmark, President Aguerre said:

“As we celebrate two years to go to Tokyo 2020, we look at the incredible journey we have been on so far and everything we still have in store moving forward. Olympic Surfing’s debut at Tokyo 2020 promises to be a unique moment and together with the IOC and Tokyo 2020 we have pledged to bring Surfing’s distinct culture and youthful energy to the Games.

“Our Surfing Beach Festival, which will run alongside the competition, will bring an exciting dimension to the Olympic Surfing experience and offer to fans and athletes alike an Olympic experience like no other. We are delighted to continue to work alongside the IOC and the Tokyo Organising Committee to put together the best conditions for Surfing’s Olympic debut.

“As we look towards the future, we also set our sights on inclusion in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and of course Los Angeles 2028.

“The Surfing culture in France is vibrant and flourishing. Our most recent 2017 ISA World Surfing Games took place in the west coast city of Biarritz, where top French athletes Pauline Ado, Jeremy Flores, Joan Duru, and Johanne Defay led their country to their first ever Team Gold Medal. The French fans demonstrated their passion and love for Surfing and showed up in the tens of thousands to support their national team.

“I am confident that our ongoing strong relationship with the IOC and the Paris 2024 team, and France’s appetite for Surfing, will help our case as we look ahead to the 2024 Games and then in due course to the Californian coast and hotbed of global surfing with Los Angeles 2028.”
