Wanning, China Será el Anfitrión del ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship 2018 en Riyue Bay

La ISA se complace en anunciar que Wanning, China será el anfitrión del ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship 2018 en la Isla de Hainan del 19-25 de enero.

Los mejores Equipos Nacionales de Longboard del mundo se reunirán en el famoso pico de izquierdas de Riyue Bay, representando a sus naciones en la lucha por el Oro en esta discipline clásica de la ISA.

El ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship es una disciplina que en anteriores ocasiones se realizó como parte del ISA World Surfing Games, y fue en el 2013 cuando se realizó por primera vez como un único evento en Huanchaco, Perú.  El Equipo de Francia hizo historia ganando el evento y convirtiéndose en el primer Campeón del Mundo ISA en esta disciplina. El francés Antoine Delpero (Categoría Open Hombres) la sudáfricana Simone Robb (Categoría Open Mujeres) y la hawaiiana Honolua Blomfield ganaron las Medallas de Oro individuales.

La ISA cuenta con una rica historia en lo que a la organización de eventos en China se refiere como parte de su estrategia de expandir el deporte del Surfing en nuevos mercados alrededor del mundo. La ISA comenzó su relación con China en el 2010, llevándoles a realizar el Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival en el 2012, que contó con la ISA China Cup. El evento se fue celebrando sucesivamente hasta el 2014, siendo una competición que ayudó de forma muy importante al desarrollo del Surfing en dicha región.

Riyue Bay, se trataba de un destino prácticamente desconocido en lo que al surf se refiere pero, pasó al foco de atención internacional cuando la colaboración entre la ISA y la World Surf League (WSL) – antes conocida como ASP – realizaron esta competición. Desde entonces, se ha podido ver como esta región se ha ido convirtiendo en un destino para los surfistas de todo el mundo.

Como prueba del legado que el Campeonato Mundial de la ISA dejó en China, este país compitió por primera vez en la historia en los ISA World Surfing Games, bajo las instrucciones del ex campeón del mundo ASP Peter ‘PT’ Townend. El evento fue sin duda una gran experiencia para los emergentes surfistas miembros del equipo nacional y un importante paso de cara al objetivo final de clasificarse para las Olimpiadas de Tokio 2020.

Wanning, China to Host 2018 ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship in Riyue Bay

The ISA is pleased to announce that Wanning, China will host the 2018 ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship on Hainan Island from January 19-25.

The world’s best National Longboarding Teams will gather at the famed left point of Riyue Bay to represent their nations and go for Gold in this classic ISA discipline.

The ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship, traditionally held as a discipline in the ISA World Surfing Games, was first held as a stand-alone event in 2013 in Huanchaco, Peru. Team France made history and earned the honors of the first World Team Champion in the event, while France’s Antoine Delpero (Open Men), South Africa’s Simone Robb (Open Women), and Hawaii’s Honolua Blomfield earned the individual Gold Medals.

The ISA has a rich history of hosting events in China as part of a strategy to expand the sport of Surfing to new markets around the globe. The ISA first engaged China in 2010 which lead to the hosting in 2012 of the Hainan Riyue Bay International Surfing Festival, featuring the ISA China Cup. Held until 2014, the competition resulted in great strides forward for the growth and development of Surfing in the region.

Riyue Bay, a relatively unknown Surfing destination at the time, burst into the international spotlight when surfing competitions were brought to the region with collaboration between the ISA and the World Surf League (WSL) – formerly ASP – which saw the sport widely practiced in the region, turning it into a destination for visiting surfers.

As proof of the legacy left in China by ISA World Championships, that nation recently fielded their first team to ever compete in the ISA World Surfing Games, headed by former ASP World Champion, Peter ‘PT’ Townend. The event proved to be a great learning experience for their blossoming surfers and a key step in their ultimate goal of qualifying athletes for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
