ISA Announces El Salvador Will Host 2023 ISA World Surfing Games

Following the extraordinary success of 2021 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games, the ISA and the government of El Salvador announced their joint commitment to host the 2023 ISA World Surfing Games again in El Salvador.

In principle, the 2023 World Surfing Games will serve as a qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games where the surfing competitions will be held in Tahiti.  The qualification status is subject to approval by the International Olympic Committee.

As part of the agreement to continue to bring major surfing events to El Salvador, the Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship is planned to be held in El Sunzal/La Bocana in 2022.

Despite being held in the midst of a pandemic with several restrictions and robust COVID-19 protocols, the 2021 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games set a new standard for world class organization for major surfing competitions of any kind.

The success of the World Surfing Games not only reflects the deep commitment by the Salvadorian leadership, and its President Nayib Bukele, to the global development of surfing, but also its ambition to establish the country as a leading surfing destination.

Through its Surf City campaign, the government of El Salvador has made surfing an integral part of the country’s national and international socio-economic development plans and destination marketing.

With at least 50 outstanding surf spots along its coastline, El Salvador offers a rich and colorful palate of options for high-level competitive surfing.

The specific details of the events are still being finalized.

ISA President Fernando Aguerre said:

“I would especially like to thank President Bukele and Minister Valdez for their very strong commitment to the success of these World Surfing Games, and their belief in the ISA and our mission.  What they have managed to achieve here in these last days is nothing short of remarkable and for this, we are grateful and eager to continue to expand and strengthen this partnership.

“Just like the hundreds of surfers from around the world who came here and experienced El Salvador’s beautiful country and warm hospitality, we look forward to continuing to return here in the interest of making a better world through surfing.”

President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele said:

“A very short time ago, we decided that El Salvador had to build a new future, to change all the things that made us suffer in the past, and to build our own destiny. As strange as it may sound for some, we decided that surf will be part of that destiny. Surf changes people’s lives. We found a great partner in the ISA because they share and promote that ideal. We’ll always be grateful for their help placing El Salvador in the history of surf and its journey to become an Olympic sport.

“As part of the SurfCity initiative, we are honored to host the Games again and continue to show the world what our beautiful country has to offer.”

La ISA Anuncia que El Salvador Será Sede del ISA World Surfing Games 2023

Luego del extraordinario éxito del Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games 2021, la ISA y el gobierno de El Salvador anuncian su acuerdo conjunto para ser sede del ISA World Surfing Games 2023 una vez más en El Salvador.

El World Surfing Games 2023 serviría como evento clasificatorio a los Juegos Olímpicos París 2024, evento en el cual la competición de surf se realizaría en Tahití. El estado de la clasificación está sujeto a aprobación por el Comité Olímpico Internacional.

Como parte del acuerdo para continuar llevando eventos de surfing importantes a El Salvador, el Vissla ISA World Junior Surfing Championship está planeándose para realizarse en El Sunzal/La Bocana en 2022.

A pesar de realizarse en medio de la pandemia, con diferentes restricciones y sólidos protocolos COVID-19, el Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games 2021 estableció un nuevo estándar en la organización de clase mundial de grandes competiciones de surfing de cualquier tipo.

El éxito del World Surfing Games no solo refleja el compromiso de los líderes salvadoreños y su presidente Nayib Bukele al desarrollo global del surfing, pero también su ambición por establecer el país como un destino líder para el surfing.

Mediante su campaña de Surf City, el gobierno de El Salvador ha hecho el surfing una parte integral de su desarrollo socio-económico nacional e internacional y mercadeo de destino.

Con un mínimo de 50 sobresalientes puntos para surfear a lo largo de su costa, El Salvador ofrece una rica y colorida paleta de opciones para surfing competitivo de alto nivel.

Los detalles específicos de los eventos están aún en proceso de finalizarse.

El Presidente de la ISA, Fernando Aguerre, dijo:

“En El Salvador hemos encontrado unos socios increíbles para el beneficio a largo plazo del surfing”.

“Quiero agradecer especialmente al Presidente Bukele y a la Ministra Valdéz por su muy fuerte compromiso en el éxito del World Surfing Games, y por creer en la ISA y su misión. Lo que han logrado aquí en estos días recientes es más que notable, y por esto estamos agradecidos y ansiosos por continuar expandiendo y fortaleciendo esta sociedad”.

“Como los cientos de surfistas de alrededor del mundo que vinieron aquí y experimentaron la hermosa tierra y cálida hospitalidad de El Salvador, esperamos continuar regresando aquí con el interés de hacer un mundo mejor mediante el Surfing”.

El Presidente de El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, dijo :

“Hace poco tiempo, decidimos que El Salvador tenía que construir un nuevo futuro, para cambiar todas las cosas que nos hacían sufrir en el pasado, y para construir nuestro propio destino. Tan extraño como suene para algunos, hemos decidido que el surf será parte de este destino. El surf cambia la vida de las personas. Hemos encontrado un gran socio en la ISA porque comparten y promueven ese ideal. Siempre estaremos agradecidos por su ayuda en colocar a El Salvador en la historia del surf y en su camino a convertirse en un deporte Olímpico”.
