Pro Zarautz QS 1000 del 31 de marzo – 3 de abril de 2016, País Vasco – España

Después de una pausa de tres años, vuelve la serie de clasificación a la pequeña y tranquila ciudad vasca con un evento QS1000 masculino y femenino que se celebrarán del 31 de marzo – 3 de abril de 2016.

El Pro Zarautz, segunda parada en la lista europea, volverá a encender la emoción que comenzó en Israel hace dos semanas y contará para el ranking regional para coronar a los campeones de Europa.

“Es un gran placer que la WSL vuelve a Zarautz con este evento QS1,000,” declaró Rob Gunning, director del Tour Europeo. “En la ciudad entera se bombea surf y traer un evento internacional de surf aquí de nuevo es un honor. Zarautz es el hogar de muchos surfistas increíbles y tiene una base muy fuerte de competidores jóvenes que vienen subiendo entre los Rankings, se que este evento los ayudará a nutrirse”.

En 2012, fue el hogar de Zarautz el último evento WSL (continuación de la ASP) hasta la fecha, donde se coronó el talentoso  marroquí Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR) en condiciones clásicas de verano.

Una larga historia del surfing competitivo en el País Vasco ha visto algunas de las batallas más grande de surf en Zarautz, lo que fomenta a los surfistas locales para competir y viajar por el mundo a través tanto del QS y campeonatos del Tour. Más notablemente, Aritz Aranburu (ESP) viniendo de la zona, ha competido en el escenario mundial contra la élite de este deporte.

“Estoy feliz de tener este evento en Zarautz de nuevo, puede ser un pequeño evento QS pero significa mucho para la ciudad y la gente de aquí,” dijo Aranburu. “Creciendo en esta ciudad solía ver todos los pros cuando venian. La verdad pone una marca en mi mente de nuevo de aquellos días. Esperamos que todas las nuevas generaciones aprecien el evento y aprendan mucho de él.”

Aprovechando el espectáculo del campeonato de surf se ofrecerá una agenda completa de actividades con un Festival con exhibiciones y conciertos paralelos al evento para disfrutar del pueblo de Zarautz: cursos de Surf y Yoga, campeonato de Skate y exhibiciones de BMX, festival de música, visitas gastronómicas, etc.

El festival está organizado por los Zarauztarraz y su entorno, sacando el máximo provecho a los recursos propios existentes, para ofrecer una actividad entretenida para el pueblo y sus visitantes. También es importante destacar la apuesta realizada por la Oficina de Turismo de Zarautz, Diputación de Gipuzkoa, Gobierno Vasco y la Federación Guipuzcoana de Surf dado que sin su apoyo no habría sido posible la organización del Pro Zarautz.

After a three-year hiatus, the quiet little Basque town returns to the Qualifying Series with a men and women’s QS1,000 event to be held from March 31 – April 3, 2016.

Second stop on the European schedule, the Pro Zarautz will reignite the exciting battles that started in Israel two weeks ago and count towards the regional rankings that will ultimately crown the European Champions.

“It is with great pleasure that the WSL returns to Zarautz for this combined QS1,000 event,” Rob Gunning, European Tour Manager stated. “The entire town is surf pumped and to bring an international surfing event here again is an honor. Zarautz is home to many incredible surfers and has a very strong base of young competitors coming through the ranks which this event will help to nurture.”

In 2012, Zarautz was home to the last WSL event (then ASP) to date, crowning Moroccan up-and-coming talent Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR) in classic summer conditions.

A long history of competitive surfing in the Basque Country has seen some of surfing’s greatest battle it out in Zarautz, whilst encouraging local surfers to compete and travel the World through both the QS and Championship Tours. Most notably, Aritz Aranburu (ESP) hailed from the area and made it onto the World stage, competing against the sport’s elite.

“I’m happy to have a contest in Zarautz again, it may be a small QS event but it means a lot for the city and the people here,” Aranburu said. “Growing up in this town I used to see all the pros come and do their thing. It really put a mark on my mind back in the days. Hopefully all the new generations appreciate the event and learn a lot from it.”
