VISSLA ISA WORLD JUNIOR SURFING CHAMPIONSHIP 2015

La Juventud de Surfing Dominará en Oceanside, California
el 11-18 de Octubre

El VISSLA International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Surfing Championship tendrá lugar del 11 al 18 de octubre e incluirá a los mejores surfistas menores de 18 años en Oceanside, California para competir en nombre de su nación.

Desde que el campeonato inaugural del ISA World Junior inició la carrera de Tom Curren en 1980, este evento ha sido reconocido como el caldo de cultivo para la próxima generación de los mejores surfistas del mundo. El campeonato del ISA World Junior ha coronado a campeones tales como Gabriel Medina, Julian Wilson, Jordy Smith, Alejo Muniz, Filipe Toledo, Owen Wright, Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Laura Enever y Tyler Wright.

Por ocho días consecutivos en octubre, el VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship demostrará cuatro divisiones de talento juvenil que incluyen: Hombres Sub 18, Mujeres Sub 18, Hombres Sub 16 y Mujeres Sub 16. Además, una vez que cada división haya terminado, se coronará un Campeón por Equipos.

“Cuando se trata de tener una visión de futuro, el VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship ha sido la plataforma preeminente para descubrir el surfista del mañana”, dijo Paul Naude, el Presidente de VISSLA. “VISSLA está más emocionado que nunca de ser parte de este Campeonato Mundial de la ISA, y traerlo de nuevo a California por primera vez desde el 2005 es algo de lo cual nos sentimos muy orgullosos. Esperamos ver que la juventud de Surfing sea la atracción principal de Oceanside para este evento de ocho días y que nos dé un vistazo del futuro”.

El año pasado, el equipo de Hawái se llevó la victoria por equipos con un triunfo total en ambas divisiones de mujeres con Tatiana Weston-Webb tomando la Sub 18 y Mahina Maeda en la Sub 16. Este año el Equipo de Hawái esperará que Maeda dirija el equipo a otro título del Campeonato Mundial de la ISA.

“Estamos orgullosos de unir a los mejores surfistas menores de 18 años de alrededor del mundo para competir en este Campeonato Mundial de la ISA”, dijo el Presidente de la ISA Fernando Aguerre. “Esta es más que una competencia, esta es una oportunidad de un vistazo del futuro de Surfing. El ISA World Junior Surfing Championship ha coronado a todos desde Tom Curren hasta el Campeón Mundial actual del WSL Gabriel Medina, y estoy emocionado de ver el talento que llegará al campeonato de este año”.

Youth of Surfing to Take Over Oceanside, CA October 11-18

Taking place from October 11-18, the 2015 VISSLA International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Surfing Championship will unleash the world’s best Under-18 surfers in Oceanside, CA to compete in the name of their nation. 

Since the first ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in 1980 launched the career of Tom Curren, this event has been recognized as the ultimate breeding grounds for the world’s next wave of premier surfers. The ISA World Junior event has crowned the likes of Gabriel Medina, Julian Wilson, Jordy Smith, Alejo Muniz, Filipe Toledo, Owen Wright, Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons, Laura Enever and Tyler Wright. 

For eight consecutive days in October, the 2015 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship will showcase four divisions of youth talent including: Men’s Under-18, Women’s Under-18, Men’s Under-16 and Women’s Under-16. Additionally, once every division has been completed an overall Team Champion will be crowned.

“When it comes to forward thinking, the VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship has been the preeminent platform to pick out the surfer of tomorrow,” said VISSLA President Paul Naude. “VISSLA is more excited than ever to be a part of this ISA World Championship, and to bring it back to California for the first time since 2005 is something we take a great pride in. We look forward to seeing Surfing’s top youth take over Oceanside for this 8-day event and give us a glimpse of the future.” 

Last year, Team Hawaii took home the overall win with a sweep in both of the women’s divisions with Tatiana Weston-Webb taking the Under-18 Junior World Championship title and Mahina Maeda winning the Under-16. This year Team Hawaii will look to Maeda to lead the team to another ISA World Championship title. 

We are proud to bring together the absolute best junior surfers from around the world to compete in this ISA World Championship,” said ISA President Fernando Aguerre. “This is more than just a competition, this is an opportunity for a sneak peek at the future of surfing. The ISA World Junior Surfing Championship has crowned everyone from legend Tom Curren to current WSL World Champion Gabriel Medina, and I cannot wait to see what talent this year’s event brings.”
