SUP, la actividad al aire libre de más rápido crecimiento según la Outdoor Industry Association, ha crecido mucho en popularidad en los últimos años. El ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship 2016 en Fiji, el cual correrá del 5 al 13 de noviembre, será la quinta edición del evento con los Campeonatos anteriores realizados en Perú (2012 & 2013), Nicaragua (2014) y México (2015).
El ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship 2015 incluyó a 27 Equipos Nacionales y 260 atletas – un fuerte aumento de la primera edición en 2012 que recibió a 17 naciones y 105 atletas, lo cual significa que la participación se ha más que duplicado desde la incepción del evento.
En la competencia de 2015, la cual tuvo el nivel más alto de talento internacional en la historia del evento, el Equipo de EEUU hizo un desempeño dominante para ganar el Trofeo al Equipo Campeón Mundial ISA Club Waikiki-Perú, rompiendo la racha de tres años del Equipo de Australia como Campeón Mundial.

El anuncio de hoy también viene después de una campaña exitosa encabezada por la ISA, el cuerpo gobernante de SUP Surfing y Carreras de SUP, que resultó con la inclusión de Carreras de SUP en los Juegos Panamericanos 2019 en Lima, Perú, y los Juegos Mundiales de Playa 2017 en San Diego, EEUU. La solicitud de la ISA para la inclusión en el Programa Olímpico de Tokio 2020 también incluyó a SUP Surfing y Carreras de SUP. Tokio 2020 recomendó que solo Surfing sea incluido, pero la ISA planea seguir trabajando para la inclusión potencial de las disciplinas de SUP en los Juegos Olímpicos 2024.
La evolución de SUP y la expansión del ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship es debida a todo el trabajo duro de la ISA y sus 98 Federaciones Nacionales. Como el Surfing, SUP tiene atracción juvenil increíble. Su cultura única y naturaleza explosiva fundamentalmente resuena en los jóvenes y es lleno de valores juveniles.

FIJI CONFIRMED TO HOST ITS FIRST EVER ISA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AS ISA CONTINUES DRIVE FOR GLOBAL EXPANSION
The 2015 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship featured 27 National Teams and 260 athletes – a sharp increase from the first edition in 2012 which hosted 17 nations and 105 athletes, meaning participation has more than doubled since the event’s inception.
At the 2015 competition, which featured the highest level of international talent in the event’s history, Team USA put on a dominant performance to earn the Club Waikiki-Peru ISA World Team Champion Trophy, breaking Team Australia’s three-year reign as World Champions.
Today’s announcement also comes on the back of the successful campaign led by the ISA, the world governing body for SUP Surfing and Racing, that resulted in SUP Racing being voted into the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, and the 2017 World Beach Games in San Diego, USA. The ISA application for inclusion in the Olympic Programme for Tokyo 2020 also included SUP Racing and Surfing. Tokyo 2020 recommended only Surfing, but the ISA intends to continue to work towards the potential inclusion of the SUP disciplines in the 2024 Olympic Games.
The evolution of SUP and the expansion of the ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship is tribute to all the hard work put by the ISA and its 98 National Federations. As is the case with Surfing, SUP has incredible youth appeal. Its unique culture and hi-octane nature fundamentally resonates with young people and it is imbued with youthful values.
ISA President, Fernando Aguerre, said:
