Los Mejores Equipos Nacionales de Surfing del mundo se reunirán para competir por el Oro en el evento principal de la ISA

La International Surfing Association (ISA) ha anunciado hoy que Biarritz, Francia, será la sede del ISA World Surfing Games 2017. La competencia visita Europa por primera vez desde el año 2008, cuando se realizó en Costa da Caparica, Portugal.

En mayo de 2017, los mejores Equipos Nacionales de Surfing del mundo se reunirán para competir por el Oro en el evento principal de la ISA, en Biarritz, un destino de Surfing de renombre mundial ubicado en la costa suroeste de Francia.

El anuncio viene seguido del INS ISA World Surfing Games 2016, que se realizó del 6 al 14 de agosto en Playa Jacó, Costa Rica. El evento fue una de las ediciones más exitosas en la historia, que tuvo a cientos de miles de espectadores que llegaron a ver a los 142 surfistas de 26 países durante una emocionante semana de competencia. El Equipo de Perú resultó victorioso.

El ISA World Surfing Games se hizo por última vez en Biarritz en 1980, ahí el legendario surfista Tom Curren de EE.UU. lanzó su exitosa carrera al llevarse la Medalla de Oro en la División Junior. Desde el año 2003, la División Junior se convirtió en una competencia por aparte; el VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.

El Surfing fue agregado al Programa de Deportes de Tokio 2020 en agosto de este año, luego de décadas de campaña destacada por una estrategia de crecimiento global y desarrollo. Como ejemplo de la visión de la ISA, los ISA World Surfing Games se han realizado en una variedad de países, incluyendo Nicaragua (2015), Perú (2014, 2010), Portugal (2008, 1998), EE.UU. (2006, 1996), Sudáfrica (2002) y Brasil (2000).

El Presidente de la ISA, Fernando Aguerre, dijo:

“Estoy muy feliz de ver el regreso de nuestro evento principal al corazón de Europa. Francia es un grandioso destino de Surfing. Particularmente Biarritz es una maravillosa ciudad costera transformada por el Surfing en las últimas décadas. Estamos emocionados de asociarnos con la Federación Francesa de Surfing para este evento extremadamente importante y hacer crecer y promover el Surfing en Europa. Los mejores surfistas del mundo estarán participando como miembros de sus Equipos Nacionales de Surfing oficiales. Las olas de clase mundial de Biarritz serán el lugar perfecto para mostrar nuestro deporte en el camino hacia Tokio 2020”.

“Con atletas compitiendo por el orgullo de representar a sus países en verdadero espíritu Olímpico, el ISA World Surfing Games son un vistazo hacia el futuro del Surfing Olímpico del cual seremos testigos en Tokio 2020”.

El Presidente de la Federación Francesa de Surfing, Jean-Luc Arassus, dijo:

“El ISA World Surfing Games es una excelente plataforma para mostrar las olas de clase mundial y la belleza de la costa del suroeste de Francia. Esperamos dar la bienvenida de los Equipos Nacionales para que experimenten las olas, la cultura de Surfing y la hospitalidad que nuestro país tiene para ofrecer”.

“Con Tokio 2020 en el horizonte, estos son momentos emocionantes para el Surfing. Esperamos darle la bienvenida a los mejores surfistas del mundo y potencialmente a los primeros atletas Olímpicos del deporte en lo que será un maravilloso festival de Surfing”.

Biarritz, France to host 2017 ISA World Surfing Games

World’s best National Surfing Teams will come together to compete for Gold in the ISA’s flagship event

The Azores Islands, Portugal – 19 September 2016

The International Surfing Association (ISA) has announced today that Biarritz, France will host the 2017 ISA World Surfing Games, bringing the competition to Europe for the first time since 2008 when it was held in Costa da Caparica, Portugal.

In May of 2017, the world’s best National Surfing Teams will come together to compete for Gold in the ISA’s flagship event in the world-renowned surf destination of Biarritz, located on France’s southwest coast.

The announcement comes on the back of the 2016 INS ISA World Surfing Games, which took place from August 6-14 in Playa Jacó, Costa Rica. The event was one of the most successful editions ever, as hundreds of thousands of spectators came to see the 142 surfers from 26 countries during an exhilarating week of competition. Team Peru emerged victorious.

The ISA World Surfing Games were last held in Biarritz in 1980, where legendary surfer, Tom Curren, from USA, launched his successful career by taking the Gold Medal in the Junior Division. Since 2003, the Junior Division has become a separate competition, the VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.

Surfing was added to the Tokyo 2020 Sports Program in August this year, after decades of ISA campaigning underpinned by a strategy of global growth and development. Exemplifying the ISA’s vision, the World Surfing Games has been held in a diverse range of countries in recent years including Nicaragua (2015), Peru (2014, 2010), Portugal (2008, 1998), U.S.A. (2006, 1996), South Africa (2002) and Brazil (2000).

President of the ISA, Fernando Aguerre, said:

France is a great surfing destination and Biarritz in particular, is a wonderful coastal city transformed by surfing in the last decades.
